Olanike Akor has been a devoted disciple in the International Church of Christ, Lagos, for over 20 years. Her journey has not been without its trials. Over a decade ago, her husband abandoned her and their two young daughters, leaving her to shoulder the heavy burden of providing for her family alone. A talented fashion designer and seamstress, Olanike relied on her craft to sustain her family. Through sheer determination and hard work, she managed to keep her daughters fed, clothed, and educated. However, tragedy struck before end of 2024 when a devastating flood swept through her community, destroying not only her home but also her business premises and all her work equipment.
The loss was overwhelming. With her tools and materials gone, Olanike's once-thriving sewing business came to a standstill. Unable to generate income, she fell behind on her rent and struggled to make ends meet. The emotional toll has been immense, leaving her frustrated and deeply depressed as she watches her dreams crumble and her ability to care for her family diminish. Olanike is now appealing to ETF for assistance. She dreams of rebuilding her sewing business, restoring her livelihood, and securing a stable future for her daughters. With support, she believes she can rise from this setback, reignite her passion for fashion design, and continue to provide for her family.
