Mahonari - India

Manohari has been a devoted disciple for a year and comes from a Hindu background. She is married with two sons. However, her family life is fraught with challenges. Her eldest son has distanced himself from the family, offering no support, while her youngest son suffers from clinical depression. Her husband, burdened with multiple health issues, is mostly confined at home. He was diagnosed with heart failure, severe diabetes, and an ulcerous gut. His most recent battle was a below-knee amputation, leaving him in urgent need of a prosthetic limb to regain basic mobility. On top of this, his eyesight is deteriorating due to diabetes, causing frequent falls and further complicating his condition.

With her husband’s declining health, Manohari's financial struggles have intensified. As a maid, her meager salary is barely enough to cover their basic needs. The weight of supporting both her husband and her son, neither of whom can work, has left her emotionally and financially overwhelmed. The estimated cost of her husband's prosthetic leg is $3,000 (approximately Rs. 275,000)—a sum far beyond Manohari’s reach, given her limited income and the rising medical expenses at home. This prosthetic limb would not only restore some of his independence and mobility but also reduce his risk of further injury. Easing this financial burden would be a lifeline for Manohari, allowing her to focus on caring for her family without the crippling weight of debt. Any support would make a profound difference in their lives.
