My name is David. I am 65 years old and have been a disciple for 35 years. I have been married for 32 years and have three children: two sons and a daughter. My wife and I served in full-time ministry for 18 years. Our first role was leading the Harare Church from December 2007 to April 2019. In 2019, we moved to the Bulawayo Church, where we serve as Evangelist and Women's Ministry Leaders, respectively.
I first noticed health issues in July 2024. I experienced pain in my back that radiated down my leg. Initially, I attributed it to running, but the pain worsened. My initial Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) reading was 9.6 ng/mL, which has since increased to 10.6 ng/mL, significantly above the normal range of less than 3 ng/mL. After various blood tests, X-rays, scans, and an MRI, potential cancer was suspected. On January 17, 2025, a biopsy confirmed low-grade, localized prostate cancer, WHO Grade 1. The estimated medical expenses to date are approximately $1,000. On January 22nd, I traveled to Gweru City to consult a neurologist regarding the back pain, now suspected to be caused by a pinched sciatic nerve. My urologist has advised that treatment options for prostate cancer include surgery or radiation, both available in South Africa or India, which are currently unaffordable. My children and I are doing our best to raise funds for this necessary operation. In the meantime, we are monitoring the tumor through periodic PSA tests while we secure the required funds for surgery.
